Today i had the pleasure of listening to some classic gems from old hindi collections. Radhu and I do relish the old hindi classics sung mainly by Lata/Mannadey/Rafi. This evening in my office one of my close friends while discussing "The Tao of Physics" mentioned to me that " Veera, have you listened to the song" Dil ki girah khol do"? Immediately I pounced on it and like an encyclopedia( as per his mention- not mine), gave all the information about the song, movie, music director, actors and background of the movie(Raat aur Din) etc.. I remembered that movie I saw with Radhu first time on video around 1997. Still in memories I cannot forget. I came home in the evening and listened to the song. Mannadey describes Lata as a singing sensation that can flow from top to bottom like a river. Any high note was possible by Lata. What a praise? Only when I listened to the song I realized the "Waltz" effect by the ever greatest music meastros Shankar Jaikishen. Cellos and violins flow effortlessly. What I do like here is Waltz effect is purely Western classical and adaptation of this into Indian movie song is phenomenal. Overlapping of strings is something remarkable. Should ask Doger to listen to this. She would appreciate this a lot. My evening was made.
Later I also listened to a song by the inimitable and immortal Rafi.. He was called "Playback singers ka Baadshah". That song was from "Basant Bahar". What a transformation to listen to the earlier song. The music directors were again SJ. This song was " Duniya Na Bhaye". Purely classical and the way Rafi starts was a very low note and slowly progresses into a classical melody. We all feel Rafi has sung some greatest songs. In my opinion I rate this as his top numbers as I fell for this song. If I could have listened this earlier may be I would have sung in one of my school music competition. May be if Jaggu mama was alive to teach me the song I would have done this for sure. Gosh I miss Mama a lot. How much he had taught me in music. Still I remember the song he wrote and did not get to teach me how to sing before he passed away. He told me to write the song before leaving for orrissa and never returned back. This song was from "Sikandari Azam". The song was " Jahan daal daal pe"... I never got to learn the song at last. Never want to learn it too for what ever reasons.
Memories are deep in the sub concious mind and comes out when needed.
Rest later...
Love
Beeyappa.
